On September 2, 2026, with the blessing of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, the ark with the right hand of St. Spyridon of Trimifunt was delivered to Smolensk.
The shrine is accompanied by members of the Greek delegation. The delegation included clerics of the Kerkyra Metropolitan Archimandrite Andreas (Gkiokas), Archpriest John Salvanos, assistant to the head of the Kerkyra Metropolitan Paul Spyridonidis, member of the parish council of St. Spyridon Cathedral in Kerkyra Spyridon Agathos, representative of the Russian Orthodox Church's Commission for the Development of Pilgrimage and the Sacrifice of Shrines, Priest Alexander Lisovsky.
Upon arrival in Smolensk, the ark with the relics of St. Spyridon was met by Metropolitan Isidore of Smolensk and Dorogobuzhsky. The head of the Smolensk Archdiocese and the Greek delegation delivered the shrine to the territory of the Assumption Cathedral of Smolensk, where a solemn meeting of the shrine took place.
At the Assumption Cathedral, the meeting of the shrine was led by the Governor of the Smolensk Region, V.N. Anokhin, and Metropolitan Isidore. The solemn meeting was also attended by the heads and employees of the authorities of Smolensk and the Smolensk region, numerous parishioners of churches in Smolensk and dioceses of the Smolensk Metropolitan Area, pilgrims, residents and guests of the city of Smolensk.
The head of the region and Metropolitan Isidore led a solemn procession with the shrine to the Assumption Cathedral. In the concelebration of the clergy of the Smolensk diocese, the archpastor performed a prayer service to St. Spyridon.
At the end of the solemn service, access to the ark with the right hand of St. Spyridon of Trimifunt was opened for the worship of the faithful.
On the night of September 2-3, a night Divine Liturgy was held at the Assumption Cathedral in Smolensk. The service was led by Metropolitan Isidore of Smolensk and Dorogobuzhsky, Bishop Meletiy of Roslavl and Desnogorsk, Bishop Alexy of Vyazma and Gagarin.
The archpastors were concelebrated by a host of clergy from the Smolensk, Roslavl, and Vyazma dioceses of the Smolensk Metropolitan Area. The hymns were performed by the Bishop's Choir (Elena Frolova is the regent).
All the faithful who attended the divine services venerated the venerable relics of St. Spyridon.
The ark with the right hand of St. Spyridon of Trimifunt will remain in the Assumption Cathedral for two days, and the shrine is available for worshiping around the clock. During these days, the clergy of the Smolensk Diocese will perform divine services at the shrine. The departure of the ark with the relics of St. Spyridon will take place on September 4 at 16.15.
