Archbishop Theophan of Korea, who is on a short visit to Japan, visited the Resurrection Cathedral in Tokyo on May 28, 2026, where he met with Metropolitan Seraphim of Tokyo and All Japan, Primate of the Japanese Autonomous Orthodox Church.
During the meeting, Bishop Theophan told Metropolitan Seraphim about the life of the Korean Diocese of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia, and also congratulated him on his recent 75th birthday, presenting him with a bishop's liturgical kit. As a gift in return, Metropolitan Seraphim presented Archbishop Theophan with a commemorative panagia. Then he conducted a tour of the Resurrection Cathedral.
The hierarchs discussed issues of inter-diocesan cooperation and agreed to establish mutual contacts.
Hieromonk Nikolai (Ono), cleric of the Resurrection Cathedral in Tokyo, also took part in the meeting, the press service of the Korean Diocese reports.

The calling of the future Primate to episcopal ministry was formally established by a resolution of the Holy Synod in early March 1976; on the eve of the consecration, the rite of nomination took place, and on March 14—on the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy—at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad theological schools, was consecrated Bishop of Vyborg.

Exactly 50 years ago, on March 13, 1976, at the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian at the Leningrad Theological Academy, the rite of nomination took place; and on the following day, March 14, the First Sunday of Great Lent, the Feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, during the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in Leningrad, the episcopal consecration of Archimandrite Kirill — the future Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ — was performed. The service was presided over by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov), whom His Holiness Patriarch Kirill calls his spiritual mentor and teacher.
