With the blessing of Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, the monograph "The governors of the Alma Ata Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church in 1927-1990: personalities in history" was published.
The author of the study is Assistant to the head of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan District in the Moscow representation of the Orthodox Church of Kazakhstan, Vice—rector of the Alma Ata Theological Seminary, Candidate of Theology, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor Hegumen Agafangel (Gagua).
The published work examines the life, church activities, scientific and spiritual heritage of the archpastors who served in the Alma Ata Diocese of the Russian Orthodox Church in 1927-1990. The book recreates the overall picture of the hierarchs' ministry in Kazakhstan in the context of church-state relations in the USSR and the history of Orthodoxy in the region during this period as a whole.
The source base of the research was made up of documents from the church and state archives of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation. The volume of the work is 452 pages. The book opens with an introductory speech by Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan.
The publication is addressed to a wide range of readers interested in the history of Orthodoxy in Kazakhstan in the twentieth century and the lives of ascetics of piety and confessors of faith.
The presentation of the monograph will take place on June 21 at the graduation ceremony of Alma Ata Theological Seminary. The book will be transferred to the parish libraries of the churches of the Kazakhstan Metropolitan area.
