By Decree of the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin No. 919 dated December 10, 2025, Metropolitan Varsonofy of St. Petersburg and Ladoga was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky.
As noted in the document published on the portal of legal acts, Bishop Varsonofy was awarded a high state award "for his contribution to the preservation and development of spiritual and moral traditions, long-term charitable and social activities."
The Order of Alexander Nevsky is the only award that existed (with certain modifications) in the award systems of the Russian Empire, the Soviet Union and the Russian Federation. The modern badge of the Order of Alexander Nevsky reproduces the design of the pre-revolutionary order. The badge of the Order of Alexander Nevsky is a gold-plated four-pointed straight cross with flared ends covered with ruby enamel. Images of a double-headed eagle are placed between the ends of the cross, in the center is a round medallion, in the field of which is an equestrian figure of Prince Alexander Nevsky made of colored enamels, facing to the left. The motto of the order is written on the reverse side.: "For labor and the Fatherland."
