Iceland celebrated the 330th anniversary of the Russian Navy on July 26, 2026. On this day, a solemn ceremony of laying wreaths and flowers at the Nadezhda Memorial in memory of sailors participating in Arctic convoys, as well as at the graves of Soviet sailors and veterans, was held at the Fossvogur city Cemetery in the center of the Icelandic capital. 
Charge d'affaires of the Russian Federation in the Republic of Iceland A.V. Shadsky addressed a welcoming speech to the staff of the Russian Embassy in Iceland, Russian compatriots and parishioners of the Nikolaevsky parish gathered for the holiday.
The rector of the Nikolaevsky Stavropol Parish of the Moscow Patriarchate in Reykjavik, Archpriest Timofey Zolotusky, celebrated a requiem mass for the sailors of the polar convoys who died during the Great Patriotic War. In his address to the participants of the divine service, the rector of the parish noted that the traditional careful and mutually respectful attitude to the memory of the fallen sailors, even in difficult times of political disagreement, remains the cultural and historical bridge that unites the peoples of Russia and Iceland today.
At the end of the ceremony, all those gathered proceeded to the military section of the Fossvogur cemetery, where they sang "Eternal Memory" to the Soviet soldiers, as well as "to all the soldiers of the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition, at this place of rest."
The Nadezhda Memorial was opened in 2005, on the 60th anniversary of the Great Victory. The representative of the Moscow Patriarchate in Germany, Archbishop Longin of Klin, consecrated the site of the future memorial. The memorial's composition is a statue of a young woman escorting sailors on a long and dangerous voyage with the hope of his safe return.
Every year on Victory Day, the St. George Ribbon, Candle of Remembrance and the Immortal Regiment march in Iceland take place at the memorial.
