The international project Colors of Orthodoxy has launched a new photography competition dedicated to Orthodox life in Czechia and Slovakia.

Entries will be accepted until November 30. Participation is free and open to both professional photographers and amateurs from around the world.

Organizers have selected four themes for the competition: “Places,” “People,” “Reportage” and “Details.” Participants may submit up to six photographs in each category. Entries may feature churches and monasteries, clergy and parishioners, religious processions and celebrations, as well as icons, frescoes, mosaics and other examples of church art.

The best photographs will be included in an illustrated, approximately 180-page album titled Colors of Orthodoxy: The Czech Lands and Slovakia. The publication is planned in five languages: English, Czech, Slovak, Polish and Russian. Photographers whose work is selected will receive copies of the album.

A series of exhibitions is also planned as part of the project. The first exhibition is expected to open in Poland in May 2027.

The initiative is being carried out with the blessing of Metropolitan Sawa of Warsaw and All Poland and Metropolitan Rastislav of the Czech Lands and Slovakia. It is organized by the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia, the Publishing House of the Warsaw Metropolis of the Polish Orthodox Church and the international photography platform OrthPhoto.

Colors of Orthodoxy is an international series devoted to Orthodox Christianity in different countries and regions. Each edition focuses on a particular Orthodox tradition. Previous albums have featured Poland, Russia, Serbia, Georgia, Romania, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Finland, Albania and Greece.

The 2023 Colors of Orthodoxy: Greece project attracted more than 4,600 photographs from over 400 photographers. The competition’s Grand Prix-winning photograph was taken by Alexandris Alexis of Greece.
