The sacrament of the Baptism of children of convicted women took place in the Mother and Child Home at IK-5 of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia in the Chelyabinsk region. The sacrament was performed by the cleric of the Church of St. Luke of the Crimea in Chelyabinsk, Priest Alexander Fedorov.
The convicted women, whose children are in the Mother and Child Home, have asked the administration of the correctional institution to organize a Baptism. Many of them are members of the local Orthodox community, so this event was a conscious and important step for them.
Before performing the sacrament, Father Alexander held a public conversation. The priest reminded the women of the high responsibility of motherhood and noted that faith helps a person to maintain hope and find the right path even in the most difficult circumstances of life.
At the end of the Baptism, each mother received as a gift a personalized icon depicting the saint in whose honor her child was named.
According to Tatiana Lavrova, head of the Department for educational work with convicts, such events help strengthen family values, promote the development of a responsible attitude towards raising children and become an important part of the spiritual and moral correction of women preparing to return to life in society.
