On the first week of Lent, the parishioners of the church in the name of St. Athanasius the Great in the city of Jayapura (West Papua province, Indonesia), together with the rector, Priest Gregory Muzendi, organized charitable assistance to those in need.
Lent is a special period in the life of Orthodox Christians. It is a time for strict prayer and strict abstinence from fast food, from bad thoughts, words and deeds. But it is also a time of works, without which faith, according to the apostle James, is dead.
Food packages were collected at the parish for low-income members of the community and those undergoing the announcement before receiving baptism. According to the website of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia, the kits included, in particular, rice, vegetable oil, sugar and tea.

March 14, 2026 marks the 50th anniversary of the episcopal consecration of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill. This is not merely a personal jubilee, but a date of profound significance for the fullness of the Church as a whole, because episcopal consecration is the moment of assuming a special responsibility for the people of God and a witness to the Church’s fidelity to apostolic succession. The calling of the future Primate to episcopal ministry was formally established by a resolution of the Holy Synod in early March 1976; on the eve of the consecration, the rite of nomination took place, and on March 14—on the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy—at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad theological schools, was consecrated Bishop of Vyborg.

Exactly 50 years ago, on March 13, 1976, at the Church of the Holy Apostle and Evangelist John the Theologian at the Leningrad Theological Academy, the rite of nomination took place; and on the following day, March 14, the First Sunday of Great Lent, the Feast of the Triumph of Orthodoxy, during the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra in Leningrad, the episcopal consecration of Archimandrite Kirill — the future Patriarch of Moscow and All Rus’ — was performed. The service was presided over by the ever-memorable Metropolitan Nikodim (Rotov), whom His Holiness Patriarch Kirill calls his spiritual mentor and teacher.
