On October 10, 2026, at the Church of the Annunciation of the Most Holy Theotokos in Petrovsky Park in Moscow, the chairman of the Patriarchal Commission on Family, Protection of Motherhood and Childhood, Priest Theodore Lukyanov, celebrated a prayer service for defenders of life before birth and for the eradication of abortion. The Holy Synod approved the text of the prayer chant on the admonition of those who have the intention to destroy the baby in the womb in December 2025. 
"Thanks to the position of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia, who adamantly testifies to the sanctity of the life of unborn children, our country has made significant progress in protecting unborn children. Of course, much remains to be done, but today we know that over the past five years, 1.5 thousand private clinics in the Russian Federation have voluntarily abandoned the production of abortions. Despite the resistance, laws banning abortion have been passed in more than 32 regions of Russia. In 19 regions, private clinics have completely abandoned the production of abortions, in 25 regions 60% of the total, in 36 regions — more than 30% of all commercial clinics have also abandoned the production of abortions. And this process is growing," said Priest Theodore Lukyanov.
He stressed that "today, no official dares to say that abortion is normal." "Infanticide is gradually becoming what it should be — an evil that must be eradicated from the body of our country, from the souls of people. No one should say that this is normal, that it is a part of human life. No. Man is the image of God, the Giver of life. Death is not a part of our nature. Killing innocent, unborn children can never be the norm anywhere. And if this becomes the norm, then a person ceases to be a human being," the priest added.
"Therefore, we will continue to lead our ministry, despite the actions of the enemy of the human race, who resists, but retreats today. You see that a significant part of the Western world, rich and influential, cannot defeat Russia. Because the True Church is alive in Russia, the faith is alive in Russia, and the people are repenting. We know that foreign troops came when the people refused to repent, refused to offer their heartfelt repentance for their sins. And the fact that people today refuse abortions is an active repentance," the priest concluded.
Parishioners of the church, employees of the Patriarchal Commission on Family, Protection of Motherhood and Childhood, activists fighting for the lives of unborn children, as well as members of the All-Russian public movement "Forty Sorokov" prayed at the service.
