In the Nilo-Stolobenskaya desert, craftsmen began to restore the facade of the Holy Cross Church. 
At the first stage, after the installation of new oak windows, the window slopes were restored. In the future, work will be carried out on cleaning the old dilapidated plaster on the facade of the temple and applying a new lime mixture used in the restoration of architectural monuments. At the final stage, the painting work will be completed.

The Holy Cross Church, which previously had a stone fence with two church-like entrances, was built in 1784-1788 on the site of a former stone chapel. It was erected in memory of the sojourn of St. Nile in the Seremsky desert. The consecration of this church in honor of the feast of the Exaltation of the Holy and Life-Giving Cross of the Lord was due to the fact that the first building in the desert, according to the memoirs of old residents, was a wooden cross with the image of St. Nile, placed on a pillar from time immemorial by an unknown person. Later, a study of the parish and expense books of the monastery for the 17th century confirmed that the cross was erected by the monks of the monastery in 1687.
The interior decoration of the temple was distinguished by a special grace: the ease of painting the iconostasis and stucco wall decorations, the freshness of gilding, the colorful icons and wall paintings. The masters who decorated the temple were Ostashkovsky painter Ilya Verzin and carver Kondraty Konyagin. The first one was inspired by his special zeal for the monastery and the Venerable Father Neil in gratitude for healing from a serious illness. The second later took vows at the monastery with the name Caesarius and piously asceticized here until the end of his days, working on carvings and stucco works, as well as copying patristic books.
