Archimandrite Michael (Crowley) has been consecrated Bishop of Boston during a solemn service at Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville. The rite was led by Metropolitan Nicholas, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and head of the Eastern American Diocese, according to the diocesan website.

Archimandrite Michael’s candidacy was previously approved by the ROCOR Synod of Bishops and confirmed by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church. The naming ceremony took place on the eve of the ordination, followed by the episcopal consecration on February 15.

As Bishop of Boston, he will serve as a vicar, assisting the ruling bishop of the Eastern American Diocese rather than heading an independent diocese. His responsibilities will include overseeing parishes across New England and supporting church administration in the region.

Before his election, Bishop Michael—born Timothy Crowley—served as a priest for more than 30 years. Since 2002, he has led the parish of Blessed Xenia of Petersburg in Methuen and acted as dean of a district uniting several parishes. In the 1990s, he and his community converted to Orthodoxy and were received into ROCOR, where he later entered the priesthood.

In remarks following his nomination, Bishop Michael described his new ministry as a responsibility to preach the Orthodox faith within American society. At the conclusion of the Divine Liturgy, Metropolitan Nicholas presented him with the bishop’s staff, symbolizing pastoral authority, and offered words of guidance for his service.
