In the midst of the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it’s easy to feel insignificant in a world teeming with billions of people. With so many of us going about our business, can it really be that God, the Creator of everything, pays attention to the seemingly trivial details of our lives? Does He really care about something as small as catching a bus on time or finding the perfect pair of shoes? As improbable as it may seem, the answer is yes. The divine hand is indeed at work in the minutiae, as long as we are willing to share our struggles and invite His guidance into our daily lives.

A recent personal experience served as a reminder of this profound truth. While exercising, I had pulled a wrist muscle—not badly, but enough to cause discomfort and ruin my mood. As a pianist, my profession relies heavily on the use of my hands, and I could tell that I would need to rest the injured wrist for a few days. But life doesn’t pause for injuries, and I found myself using the hurt wrist both at work and at home, straining it further when lifting objects.

One morning, after enduring pain from the injury, I was headed down into the subway. As I pushed against a heavy door to enter, a sharp pain shot through my wrist. At that moment, I thought of the doors ahead that I would have to push open to exit the station. It was small, but to me, it was a daunting obstacle. All I wanted was for the person in front of me to hold the door, making it easier for me to pass without straining my injured hand.

But the young man at the front of the line did not notice my discomfort. He hurried through the door, leaving it to close with a squeal just as I approached. I stood there, feeling a wave of frustration, and in that instant, I found myself silently praying: “God, don’t You see my pain? Why didn’t You make that person hold the door for me? Now I’m going to hurt myself even more.”

Then, in a moment of unexpected grace, a stranger—someone from the crowd behind me—stepped forward. Without a second thought, he opened the door for me and smiled as he motioned for me to pass.

“Go ahead, miss,” he said warmly.

I was stunned. A simple act of kindness, but in that instant, it felt like a direct response from God, a reassurance that He had heard my unspoken thoughts. Despite my frustration and doubt, He had sent someone to ease my burden. It was a profound reminder that, even in the smallest of inconveniences, God’s hand is always there, working through the actions of others.

This experience serves as a powerful lesson in the ever-present nature of divine care. How often do we forget that God is not only with us in our grand moments but also in the little details of our daily lives? In the midst of minor struggles—like a painful wrist or a heavy door—God’s presence is tangible. Even when we may feel that He is distant or inactive, He is always there, quietly orchestrating the help we need, even through the hands of others. The hand of God may not always come in dramatic ways, but it is always there, waiting to guide us through the obstacles in our path.

So, as I reflect on that small but meaningful moment, I am reminded that divine assistance can come in the form of a simple gesture. Whether it’s a stranger holding a door or a prayer answered in an unexpected way, God’s care is with us in every step of our journey. We are never truly alone.
