On July 12, at the site of the destroyed Cathedral of St. Peter the Great. A Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Svobody Square (formerly Cathedral Square) in Barnaul in honor of the feast of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul.
The place of the festive divine service was not chosen by chance and has already become traditional: here, on the Cathedral Square of Barnaul, from 1771 to 1935, there was a magnificent cathedral in the name of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, whose memorial day is celebrated on July 12.
Cathedral Square is a modern Freedom Square. The temple was built at the expense of a silver smelter, and later a cemetery was assigned to it, where famous personalities are buried, for example, the inventor of the first steam engine, Ivan Polzunov, and the first chief chief of the Kolyvan-Voskresensk factories, Andreas Beer.
Now there is a park on the site of the destroyed Peter and Paul Cathedral. There is a monument to the victims of political repression "Farewell". Over time, hopefully, a revived temple will appear, which will not only decorate the city, but also become the spiritual and architectural dominant of Barnaul, which it once was.
