On June 29, celebrations dedicated to the Holy Martyr Hermogenes (Dolganev) took place in Tobolsk.
Bishop Hermogenes' ministry came at a difficult time in the history of Russia. During his life, Vladyka successfully admonished the rebels, endured tribulation, slander, exile, and fought against the ideas of revolution.
On June 15-16, 1918, Bishop Hermogenes was drowned by the Bolsheviks in the waters of the Tura River.
On July 3, the remains of Bishop Hermogenes were found on the riverbank near the village of Usolsky, along with a stone that was tied to the body of the saint by the tormentors.
The venerable remains of the holy martyr were solemnly buried in the crypt built in the John Chrysostom chapel on the site of the first grave of St. John, Metropolitan of Tobolsk. Today, the relics of St. Hermogenes rest in the St. Sophia and Assumption Cathedral of the Tobolsk Kremlin.
On June 29, teachers and students of theological schools prayerfully honored the memory of the Holy Martyr Hermogenes. The solemn divine services were led by Metropolitan Dimitri of Tobolsk and Tyumen, Bishop Serapion of Yalutorovo and Bishop Thomas (Demchuk).
