On November 1, 2026, Priest Alexander Solovyov, a cleric of the Stavropol Diocese, died in the Sumy area in the area of a special military operation while performing his pastoral duty. The clergyman's death was caused by an FPV drone strike.
Fr Alexander has served as a pastoral minister in the war zone since mid-2022. During this time, he stayed close to the military personnel, providing them with spiritual support in difficult front-line conditions.
The priest performed the Sacraments of Confession and Communion, parted the soldiers before performing combat missions, supported the wounded and shared with the military the hardships of daily life on the front line.
Until his last days, Father Alexander remained faithful to his pastoral vocation, continuing to provide spiritual care to those who were in the immediate vicinity of the line of contact.
His ministry became a testimony to self-sacrifice and Christian love for one's neighbors, which is described in the Gospel: "There is no greater love than if a man lays down his life for his friends" (John 15:13).
Eternal memory to the newly deceased Priest Alexander.
