In the area of the special military operation, on the initiative of the command and personnel of regiment No. 1428, St. Sergius of Radonezh was chosen as the heavenly patron of the unit.
Military personnel wear chevrons with the image of the saint and build a temple in the forest on their own. The choice of the patron saint is connected with the veneration of Sergius of Radonezh as a spiritual mentor who blessed Prince Dmitry Donskoy before the Battle of Kulikovo.
The day of the election of the patron saint is included in the historical form of the regiment.

“Not a Laurel Wreath, but a Thorny Crown.” On the 50th Anniversary of the Episcopal Consecration of His Holiness Kirill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia

The calling of the future Primate to episcopal ministry was formally established by a resolution of the Holy Synod in early March 1976; on the eve of the consecration, the rite of nomination took place, and on March 14—on the Sunday of the Triumph of Orthodoxy—at the Holy Trinity Cathedral of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, Archimandrite Kirill (Gundyaev), rector of the Leningrad theological schools, was consecrated Bishop of Vyborg.
