On July 18, 2026, the feast of the finding of the venerable relics of St. Sergius, Abbot of Radonezh (1422), His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia celebrated the Divine Liturgy on the Cathedral Square of the Holy Trinity Sergius Lavra.
The solemn service was performed in front of the venerated icon of St. Sergius of Radonezh. For the celebration of the all—night vigil and the Divine Liturgy, a platform was erected on Cathedral Square, and a throne under the shadow was placed in front of the Assumption Cathedral of the Lavra.
The Orthodox delegation of the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia from the Republic of Indonesia and Malaysia attended the service. Russians Russian delegation's visit is aimed at worshiping the shrines of the Russian Orthodox Church, participating in divine services, getting to know the historical and spiritual centers of Russia, as well as strengthening fraternal ties between the Orthodox communities of Southeast Asia and the Russian Orthodox Church. The delegation includes representatives of the Orthodox communities of the republics, including the clergy of the Singapore Diocese.
The hymns of the Liturgy were performed by the united choir of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra and the Moscow Theological Academy under the direction of Hieromonk Nestor (Volkov).
Special petitions were offered at the special litany, and His Holiness Patriarch Kirill read a prayer for Holy Russia.
Russian Russian Orthodox Church At the end of the Liturgy, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill, members of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, and the hierarchs who had arrived at the monastery for the feast performed a prayer service to the Abbot of the Russian Land.
Then His Holiness proceeded to the Trinity Cathedral of the monastery, where he venerated the venerable relics of St. Sergius and venerated the icon of the Holy Trinity painted by St. Andrei Rublev.
At the entrance to the Patriarchal Chambers of the Lavra, His Holiness was greeted by representatives of the Orthodox Youth Community, who presented His Holiness with an icon of the "Good Silence."
The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church addressed the flock from the balcony of the Patriarchal Chambers with a Primatial address, in which, in particular, he said:
"Your Eminences and Eminences! Dear Bishops, Fathers, Mother Abbesses, brothers and sisters!
I cordially congratulate all of you on the great day when we glorify the power of God, which manifests itself in human weakness (see 2 Corinthians 12:9).
This is especially felt in these walls, associated with the name of St. Sergius of Radonezh. St. Sergius was neither an outstanding thinker nor a military commander, nor did he possess any special human powers, but here, in this place, having settled in the forest, he gained such spiritual strength that those in power, military leaders, and many ordinary people began to flock to him.
By what force did the monk attract people to him? Why couldn't many politicians, who possessed material, political, and military power, compare with St. Sergius in terms of their influence on people? Only because the power of God is stronger than the power of man. The saint acquired this divine power through his asceticism, his humility, his prayer, and his full dedication to the Lord and Savior. And powerful, powerful people flowed into these Radonezh forests just to receive the blessing of the monk. We know that Dmitry Donskoy received his blessing before a terrible battle, on the results of which the existence of our country depended.
But perhaps the strongest and most significant proof of the presence of a special spiritual power in the monk was what happened in the twentieth century. The godless government closed the Lavra, robbed it, turned it from a place of worship of God into a place of rejection of God. Whatever's going on here! And, probably, the authorities thought that under no circumstances would the Orthodox faith be revived in our country, and even more so monastic life in this holy Monastery. I would like to emphasize once again that all the forces of the mighty Soviet state were thrown into achieving these goals, and it did not work out.
St. Sergius, an elder who lived in seclusion, turned out to be stronger than the military superpower, which failed to turn people away from God, the Church, or this holy place..."
According to tradition, festive episcopal services on the memorial day of St. Sergius of Radonezh were also held in the churches of Moscow theological schools and the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.
After the Liturgy, the Primate of the Russian Church met with a delegation from the Patriarchal Exarchate of Southeast Asia at the Church of St. Filaret the Merciful in the Patriarchal Chambers of the Lavra.
Then, the presentation of church awards took place in the Throne Room of the Patriarchal Chambers.
On the day of the memory of St. Sergius of Radonezh, the Primate of the Russian Church celebrated the Liturgy at the Trinity-Sergius Lavra.
